Aviator eyeglasses add character to your face, and the style is both classic and trendy. In other words: You can't go wrong with aviator glasses! Of course, your favorite optician Extra Optical offers a large selection of gorgeous aviator glasses. In our online store, you'll find plenty of stylish aviator frames from famous designer brands like Ray-Ban, Gant and Tom Ford, but also countless low-budget models from our own excellent suppliers.
From military equipment to fashion fad.
The aviator style came to life thanks to a request from the US Air Force in the early 1930s. The New York-based optical company Bausch & Lomb was commissioned to create sunglasses that could filter most of the solar radiation in order to protect military pilots during their exercises. Bausch & Lomb passed the test with flying colors, and the aviator sunglasses were born. Initially, the glasses were made only for the military, but in 1936 the company began to sell aviator sunglasses on the open market under the name Anti-Glare. The following year, in 1937, the Ray-Ban brand name was launched. Ray-Ban's aviator sunglasses quickly gained cult status, and other companies didn't pass on the op-portunity. Eighty years after their launch, hardly any other eyeglass style enjoys the same popularity as aviator glasses.
